Sometimes you'll see that items are available at various locations, but they can't be picked up at the location you want. This can happen for a few different reasons.
- Not all items can be requested.
Most items that are considered to be on reserve, meaning loaned for 2 hours, 4 hours, 1 day, 3 days etc., can't be requested at all.
- Some items can be requested, but only at the college that owns the item.
Many semester-long loans and 7-day reserve loans are like this. If ARC owns it, you can request it and pick it up at ARC, but you can't have it delivered to another college for pickup.
These considerations can in some cases combine to produce confusing scenarios. For instance, you might see that a book has a 2-hour copy available at ARC and a full-semester copy available at SCC. You want to request it for pickup at ARC. But when you go to request it, you find that only SCC is available as a pickup location. This happens because:
- the ARC copy can't be requested at all—you can get it at ARC but it's first-come, first-served—and
- the SCC copy can be requested, but can only be picked up at SCC.
Whenever you need help figuring out your request options, your best bet is to call our Circulation Desk at (916) 608-6613, or send us a message at our Ask Us page. Because the pickup scenarios are sometimes complex, you are less likely to get a quick answer via chat.
