Can you explain the FTE limitations for adjunct faculty that could prevent some from applying?

Completion of all milestones will result in a $2500 payment which will count against your Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) teaching load. This grant carries approximately .093 FTE while the semester and annual limits are 0.67 and 1.29 respectively. Other compensated professional development activities may also count towards your total load as well. This means that adjunct faculty are prohibited from participating if the total FTE exceeds these limits.

You will receive payment in the semester in which you complete all milestones so it's important to communicate with your dean about this potential impact. Those adjunct faculty who are carrying .55 or lower FTE should not be impacted by this limitation if they are applying for a single course in a single category and aren’t also applying for compensated professional development activities through Los Rios.

This is a change from the previous OER Award Program, which did not count against teaching load. Updates to the faculty contract resulted in more opportunities for adjunct faculty to receive payment for they work they do outside the classroom and this is an example of that work.
