How do I change a due date on a checked-out item?

Answer

If you need to change the due date on an item checked out to a patron, use the Manage Patron Services function in the Fulfillment menu. (Remember, your location must be set to a Circulation Desk.)

Change Due Date

1. Search for the user by ID or name and select their account.

2. View the loan that needs to be updated, and select Change Due Date.

Select change due date

3. Select the new due date and submit "Change Due Date."

4. You will receive a green pop-out box to confirm the due date change was successful.

5. To generate an updated checkout receipt for the patron, select "Done" before closing the patron's record. An updated checkout receipt will be emailed to the patron.

Troubleshooting

If the due date change was unsuccessful, check:

  • Whether the new due date is past the patron's expiration date. A due date cannot extend past the user's expiration date. Refer to an Access Services Lead or Systems Administrator for assistance.
  • Whether there are outstanding hold requests on the item.

If you do not see the "Change Due Date" in the more actions menu, check to make sure that you are in the Manage Patron Services view. (Do not view the user from a User Search for this type of action.)

  1. Note: if you want Alma to automatically send the user a notice that the due date has changed, use the checkboxes on the left to select any items and then select the "Change Due Date" link above the item table.
