Why do I see the error "Access to the system is blocked from your current location" when I try to log in to Alma?

Answer

We have security measures in place to prevent Alma users from signing in to Alma outside of the Los Rios campuses. This restriction is based on the IP address, which includes on-campus desktop/wired connections and WiFi networks.

In most cases, users who sign in using their Los Rios SSO accounts are able to sign in from off-campus, to allow them to work remotely. In cases where we share logins, such a student worker accounts, the login is only available from off-campus.

Note that if you are using a hotspot connection or your phone's internet data connection rather than WiFi, this connection will be not be considered to be on-campus.

If you have an account that is only allowed to sign in from on-campus and you try to sign in from off-campus, you encounter the following run-on sentence:

"Access to the system is blocked from your current location, please change your location or contact your system administrator"

Access to the system is blocked from your current location, please change your location or contact your system administrator

These restrictions are enabled using IP Group Configuration and Login Restriction Configuration. If a user needs to be able to sign in from off-campus, a system administrator needs to check the box in their user account labeled "Disable all login restrictions."
