Answer
Extensions in current use
The following extensions have been officially adopted for current use:
Field no. | Name | Purpose | Analytics Local Parameter |
---|---|---|---|
591 | Los Rios local note | Information pertinent only at Los Rios. Can be placed in various areas of the record and shown to / hidden from particular Primo VE views. | 04 |
956 | Custom thumbnail image | Images not suitable for adding to WorldCat master record. Normally hosted on library web server and named to fit our thumbnail template. | 01 |
962 | Sierra accession number | Number of bib record in legacy Sierra system; only present on migrated records. Was useful during and shortly after migration. | None |
977 | Local resource type keyword | Designates certain resource types in Primo, currently Electronic Devices and Models. Note this cannot be used with bibs linked to the NZ. | None |
988 | Los Rios creator | Displays info about Los Rios-affiliated author, illustrator etc. | 03 |
Obsolete and unofficial extensions
In our first year of implementation, we were using local extensions in fields 591-595 to note items on reserve. We have since moved to using Alma's Course Reserves / Reading lists. These obsolete course reserve notes may still be found in MARC display, but they are not displayed or searchable in Primo VE and may be removed at any time.
We were using 952 to indicate when a title was available for controlled digital lending. This was done to help with our Canvas LTI app, but it was subsequently determined to be unnecessary.
In a few cases field 975 has been used for vendor bibs uploaded to electronic collections.
As explained in the document on our 591 note, catalogers may use a local 590 extension if they like.
