When and how can I return books and other library materials?

Summer Recess 2025

Please return library materials to avoid them going overdue and eventually to Lost status. During recess, books may be left in any of the library's book returns. If you are returning Chromebooks or laptops, or wish to return other materials directly, staff will be available in the Learning Resource Center during recess to process returns from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on the following days.

  • Friday, May 23
  • Tuesday, May 27 to Thursday, May 29
  • Monday, June 2 to Thursday, June 5

Doors will be locked. Please call (916) 558-2301 when you arrive.

If you are returning a 4-hour reserve textbook when the library is open, please return it at the Circulation Desk on the second floor of the LRC.

Chromebooks and laptops must be returned at the Circulation Desk.

Otherwise, you may return books, DVDs, and calculators using any of the book return boxes. Book return locations:

  • behind the LRC, adjacent to the parking lot
  • in front of the LRC
  • along the east wall of the LRC, facing the Business building, next to the pickup lockers.

Except for reserve textbooks and technology items, you can return your library items to any Los Rios library. For more information on returning items to those libraries, please see their websites.

Campus is closed between 11:00 pm and 5:30 am, so during those hours you should use the book return adjacent to the parking lot.

Please note, if you return an item when the library is closed, it will not be checked in until the library reopens and staff have an opportunity to do this work. Until it is checked in, it will still appear as on loan in your library account. When it is checked in, you will receive an email confirming the return.

Bookstore Rentals

Do not return rentals from the Bookstore to the library. If you do, even if the library drops the book off at the bookstore, the bookstore will not be able to figure out which book came from which person, and you may end up having to pay for the whole textbook, not just the rental fee.

Instead, bring your rented textbook back to the college bookstore. For more, see the bookstore's rental FAQ.
