How can I access textbooks for my classes from the ARC Library?

The library is not affiliated with the ARC Bookstore / College store or eFollet.
If you have questions about buying your textbook from the Bookstore please see their Bookstore FAQ on their website and their store info page for contact information.

Many textbooks in ARC Library's course reserves are available to borrow for a semester long check-out. Unfortunately, we may only have a few copies of the textbook you are looking for that can be checked out for the full semester.

Some textbooks may be available as an eBook or digital book from the library in OneSearch, but due to copyright the library is very limited in which materials we can provide in these formats. What's a digital book and how is it different from an ebook?

Request

If you need assistance finding your textbook through the library please contact the library through chat or phone (916) 484-8455.

Why don't I see a Request button?

  • Items that are not semester loans cannot be requested in OneSearch and are on an in-person, first come, first serve basis.
    • Students may come to the library/Service Window to check out these items.
      • (Students often use these copies to review or photograph portions of the textbook that are required for course work.)
    • See our Library Hours for times you can come to the library to check out non-requestable textbook course reserves.
  • Request through OneSearch is not available the last week of the semester and most of intersession (when classes are not in session).
    • Request through OneSearch will be available 2 weeks before the semester begins.
  • Students cannot request textbooks during summer session for fall. Please wait until 2 weeks before fall semester begins.

Pick Up

  • You will receive an email from the Library letting you know that your item is ready for pickup.
  • During the first few weeks of the semester please be patient as this may take a few days - we receive a high volume of requests during this time.

Please call the Circulation Desk at (916) 484-8455 if you have questions about a library item you have requested. Please leave a voicemail with your student ID and a number to call back.
