How do I borrow books and other library materials?

It is recommended that you check the availability of items and request through OneSearch when available before coming to the library.

Check our library hours page for our service window hours and when you can come to the library to check out library materials.

Request through OneSearch

  1. Search for the item you want to check out in OneSearch.
  2. For physical items you will see "Available at..." Available at ARC
  3. Click on the title to get more information
  4. You'll see a link inviting you to sign in
    • Students must be currently enrolled in order to check out/access library materials. If you are having trouble signing in please contact the library.
  5. After you've signed in, if the item may be requested you will see a Request button.
  6. Click Request and follow the prompts to submit your request.
    1. Select your pick-up location - you may request circulating items that are at other Los Rios campuses for pick-up at the ARC Library (Textbook course reserves must be picked up from the home library where the item is located).
    2. Can I check out or return my library materials at another Los Rios library?
    3. "Natomas Center" pickup location is at the North Natomas Library

Why don't I see a Request button?

  • Items such as 3 day textbook course reserves cannot be requested in OneSearch and are on an in-person, first come, first serve basis.
  • Request through OneSearch is not available the last week of the semester and during intersessions (when classes are not in session).
    • Request through OneSearch will be available 2 weeks before the semester begins.
  • See our Library Hours for times you can come to the library to check out 3 day textbook course reserves.

Visit the library or call the Circulation Desk at (916) 484-8455 if you have questions. Please leave a voicemail with your student ID and a number to call back.

Pick Up

  • You will receive an email from the Library letting you know that your item is ready for pickup.
  • During the first few weeks of the semester please be patient as this may take a few days - we receive a high volume of requests during this time.

Check the status of your request

You can also always check the status of your request in your My Library Account

Please call the Circulation Desk at (916) 484-8455 if you have questions about a library item you have requested or need to make changes to your request that cannot be done through your Library Account. Please leave a voicemail with your student ID and a number to call back.
