What features does the ARC Library's Canvas App offer?

Accessing the App in Canvas

The Library App page is included in all Canvas course's navigation by default.

NOTE: Import of a previous shell will change the navigation menu. If the Library App was not enabled in the previous shell, the import will disable it to match the previous shell, as "course settings" are also imported in a course copy.

To make it visible to students in your course:

  1. Go to your current course in Canvas
  2. Click on "Settings" in your course in the left hand menu
  3. Click on the "Navigation" tab at the top
  4. Scroll down to "ARC Library"
  5. Drag and drop it into your visible navigation list

About the app page

Search Box

A search box leading to OneSearch allows students to start exploring Library resources, including book, ebooks, articles and more. In most cases, students who have logged in to Canvas will be automatically given access to library databases, with no need to log in again.

Course Research Guides

If you have had a library orientation, and a course guide was created, automatically link to that guide will appear on this page.

Textbooks

This page automatically includes links to any textbooks/course materials your course has on reserve. If the Library has items on reserve for your class, you should see a section labeled “Your Textbooks.” Clicking any item there will bring you to the full record where you can find the call number, access online resources, and information about its availability.

Chat with a Librarian

Chat with a Librarian icon appears, connecting students to real-time help from Los Rios Librarians or, during off-hours, a consortial service staffed by professional Librarians from other institutions.

Other Resources

  • Library Hours
  • Library Answers FAQ
  • Links to:
    • Research Databases
    • Research Tutorials
    • Citation Help
    • Library Account
  • In certain other cases, other content relevant to your course may appear. For instance, Nursing courses will show a link to the Ovid database. If you have an idea along these lines for relevant content to show for a particular department, send it to Kate Williamson.

Note

Some of the above features are automated and are based on the title of the course. So, if you have changed the title (Course Code) of your class in Canvas, these features might not appear or may be inaccurate. Find out how to fix this problem.

If you have any questions about Library resources via Canvas or have ideas about how to make the page better, please contact Kate Williamson.
