How do I borrow books and other library materials?

Look it up

You can look up what books are available, including textbooks on reserve, using OneSearch. You can even limit your results to just Books and Videos in the Library when performing a search or when you are viewing your results.

Search for "universal basic income" in search scope called "Books & videos in the library"

Find it

When the library is open, you can simply visit the library to pick books off the shelf or, for textbooks on reserve, request them at the circulation desk. In either case, you'll want to note the call number, which tells you (and library staff) exactly where the book is located.

Request it (place hold)

If you want to request a book to check out later, first find the item you want to borrow in OneSearch. You'll see a link inviting you to sign in.  After you've signed in, if the item may be requested you will see a Request button.  You will only see the request button if you are enrolled in classes in the current term.

Not all items may be requested. For instance, many textbooks on reserve and some technology items may not be requested. Please visit the FLC Main Campus or El Dorado Center library to check out these items.

If the Request button is available, click it and follow the prompts to submit your request. Aside from current textbooks on reserve, items may be requested from any of the Los Rios college libraries and delivered to the library of your choice.

Request button in OneSearch

When the item is ready for you to pick up, you will receive an email from the Library letting you know that it's ready for pickup. You can also always check the status of your request in your library account.

If you selected the FLC Lockers or Rancho Cordova Center as your pickup location, check out How do I pick up books from library lockers?

Check it out

Visit the library desk during open hours to pick up your requested items.  We will ask for your last name to easily locate the books we've placed on hold for you.  Please have your Student Access Card or other identification available so we can ensure the items are loaned to the right person.
